Although this doesn’t affect many of you, I was wondering if you could all help me and fellow musicians out.
Queensland Fanfare is a state wide music competition for students from grades 3-12. It occurs every two years, and around 700 Orchestras, Concert, Stage and Marching Bands participate from all over the state.
It provides an amazing opportunity for students of all ages to compete against other schools in their region, as well as giving them a sense of purpose and achievement when playing their instrument. In each region a group is chosen as the overall winner and they have the chance to travel to Brisbane to compete against the best groups in all of Queensland, in a professional venue.
I have participated in Fanfare 5 times throughout my schooling, and as a grade 3 student who had just picked up a violin, it was amazing to play in front of so many people. In high school I was in a group which made it to the finals, which was the most amazing experience.
Now our Premier has decided to cancel the competition
He states that it is because of the ‘lack of funding’, even though it only took up 0.04% of the $700million+ budget.
This is devastating, Fanfare is such a huge event in all QLD music student’s lives. It it also the only big music competition in the state. It provides something for everyone to work towards, both teachers and students alike.
Please, please, please take a few seconds to sign this petition, and reblog this for a signal boost. Even though it wouldn’t affect you, the thousands of music students who might miss out on performing in the coming years will thank you.
Guys, DO THIS
